Reading Recommendations from Just Desserts members for March/April 2020

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, all public meetings of book discussion groups sponsored by the Lincoln City Libraries were temporarily discontinued as of March 20th, 2020. Therefore, the members of the Just Desserts mystery fiction discussion group, have not been able to share their “Round Robin” reading recommendations at either a March or April 2020 meeting. An e-mail plea was put out to group members to submit their recent reading recommendations via e-mail by the beginning of May, and the following is what had been submitted by Friday, May 8th, 2020:

Here’s the list of mystery, thriller and suspense books recommended by Just Desserts members in March/April 2020:

Just Desserts: Join the discussion of “Twisted Twenty-Six” by Janet Evanovich

The Just Desserts mystery fiction discussion group was unable to meet on April 30th, 2020, due to the libraries suspending all public meetings (starting March 20th) as a safety precaution during the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the group was unable to discuss Twisted Twenty-Six, the 26th entry in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. If you read this book, and would like to contribute your comments about it, please do so as a reply comment to this blog post, below.

For additional reminders about upcoming Just Desserts meetings (once they resume) and/or other announcements of interest to mystery fans, don’t forget to sign up for the Just Desserts e-mail list. Or, once meetings are possible again, if you’re logged into your account on Facebook, you can visit the Events page for the Lincoln City Libraries, and mark whether or not you plan to attend upcoming sessions of Just Desserts – this is a great way for you to help us promote this engaging discussion group!

So…What did you think of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, including the Twisted Twenty-Six and would you read more of these?

We hope to return to public meetings, including Just Desserts, by this Fall, although watch the libraries’ website and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for the latest updates!

Reading Recommendations from Just Desserts members – February 2020 + a recipe!

At the February 27th, 2020 meeting of the Just Desserts mystery fiction discussion group, following the discussion of the assigned topic of the month – Louise Penny’s The Beautiful Mystery – we held our monthly “round robin”, in which all 19 attendees were able to share recommendations of what other books they’ve been reading, listening to or viewing recently.

Added bonus: The Just Desserts book discussion group also involves sharing desserts during our discussions, and sometimes the attendees want to get recipes for some of the homemade treats. That happened with the following recipe from our February meeting:

PB Fritos: A No-Bake Treat — from Christy A.

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 bag of Fritos corn chips (Fritos Scoops will work as well) – 18-oz or smaller

Instructions:

Spread the bag of Fritos corn chips in a greased 15″ by 10″ by 1″ baking dish.

Combine the syrup and sugar in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil for one minute over medium heat, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat, and stir in peanut butter until smooth.

Pour liquid mixture over bag of Fritos, stirring to evenly coat as much of the Fritos as you can, and let cool. Slice into individual portions or just break up into chunks for serving.

Whether or not you attended the actual meeting, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions about The Beautiful Mystery and Louise Penny, in a reply comment to this blog post, below.
